Blargh! It's Wednesday.
And that means it's time for a little WIP Wednesday! Sorry for the absence. I had to learn an entire chapter of Spanish in 2 days, and impressively enough I made my highest test grade. Anyway. So, I'm about 7k into draft 2 of The Sandman's Apprentice. It's coming along very slowly what with all the other things I've been doing. Did I mention I read two fulls over the weekend? Well, I did. Which is why there wasn't a review up on Monday. BUT I will finish reading and Falling, fly for you all soon. Maybe tonight of I don't end up editing or reading a partial.
Either way, you guys are getting a review . . . and an INTERVIEW this week. Uh huh, that's right. Not telling you who with though, so you'll just have to show up. But I can promise you another review next week, too. And another after that. :) I'm awesome. I know. LOL just kidding.

WIP Wednesday
Edits are very slow. I've been busy reading lots of queries (128 of them yesterday from over the weekend and another day or two from last week) and trying not to fail miserably at Spanish. But I've made a little progress and I'm trying to iron out a few plot details that probably won't matter to most people but I want to have an answer for them nonetheless. So draft 2 is sitting at a whopping almost 3k of all new words. Yea, I told you it was slow going.
In other news, I have an idea that I've been thinking about for a few months now in my head and I can't get it out, but there's no real plot there yet. When I get time I'll see what I can make of it, but it'll be fun and comical and a change of pace if I do it right.
And completely unrelated but not really: please go watch this video of/by Jackson Pearce. I haven't read Sisters Red yet but I really, really want to and this video just confirms Pearce's awesomeness. Better yet, I'll just show it to you. (No excuses now! Hahaha.) Enjoy! And be sure to tell me how things are going for you, whether you're a writer or not! Read any good books lately? I'd love to hear about them!

WIP Wednesday
I don't have much progress to report on The Sandman's Apprentice other than to say that I've started draft #2. I seem to be basically re-writing it so far. I'll copy a paragraph from the first draft and put it a few lines down to remind me of what's happening at this point in the story and then I just write it all over again. A few things change, the prose gets tightened, and I make it more realistic and flow better.
My chapter breaks are changing. A chunk that was 2,200 words is now 1,200 and is so much cleaner and more realistic. I love turning a great story into an actual book. There's nothing like knowing that what you're working on is (going to be) publishable material.
So that's where I'm at, going a little slower than I'd like. How are things with all of you?

WIP Wednesday
I FINISHED!!! *cough* ahem *cough* Sorry. I mean, I finished my current WIP on what, Friday? I think it was Friday. So I let it sit all weekend and started making a few edits last night, and I only spent about an hour and a half on it. But edits have officially begun. I am a happy camper. :] <-- that's my happy camper face, not to be mistaken with my uber happy face --> :D (they're completely different, right?)

WIP Wednesday and a Blog Award
I mentioned on Friday that I got the Versatile Blogger Award from Amparo Ortiz and Katrina Lantz; both ladies are amazing. Go check them out. :) Thanks so much for thinking of me!!
Like just about every other award, this one has a handful of rules, but I'm not going to follow them. Here they are anyway, haha:
Okay, here are the rules I must follow:

WIP Wednesday
The current project, abbreviated TSA, is now 60 words exactly from 25k, which, ya know, kind of really bothers me. I thought about writing a bunch of crap or typing 'blah' repeatedly just to get there. I resisted!

Late WiP Wednesday
Okay, slow going on the WiP lately, what with finals and moving and trying to get stuff together for New York, but still. I've got 6 chapters now, which is 1 chapter more than last time. Of course, chapter 6 is, like, the shortest chapter yet (1200 words) and chapter 7 is going to be even shorter, I think. But I actually mean for chapter 7 to be short, chapter 6 was a surprise. : /
This brings my total word count to 17,150. I feel like I'm making progress even though I haven't really had time to do much. Hopefully things will pick back up after New York. I should be dying to write by then anyway. :) (It is now 11:29 PM. Take that, Universe!)
How are things going for all of you?

Work in Progress Wednesday!
I don't know why, but I'm still in love with this story. It's been a month and a half and we're still going strong, not as fast as I'd like, but still. Excited.
I have 5 chapters all around 3k a piece, and I've got all of two sentences of chapter 6, haha. :) I'm about a 1/4 of the way through the 1st draft now, and I'm hoping to finish it in the next couple of months.
So, if you need a beta or you think you might want to beta for me, I'm going to be looking for one soon, because I need a crit partner or a critique group. Let me know if you're interested. I like YA and MG the most, but I do read some adult. My preferred genre(s) is/are fantasy/scifi/paranormal/supernatural/whatever-you-want-to-call-it but I'll try just about anything. I like mythology, action, romance, sour candy, and long walks on the beach. Oh, wait, I've never even been to the beach, scratch that. hehe.
Alright, I'd stick around but I have to go take a biology final now. *sigh* Hope you all are having good times with your MSs! I'll be back tomorrow (hopefully) with another double review of the next 2 Percy Jackson books. Have a lovely Cinco de Mayo!

WiP Wednesday
It's the first draft, but it's coming out so much better than the last one did. I know this is the one I'm going to query, and if all goes well I'll be ready to do that next Spring. This one looks like it'll be about 60k when it's finished so I'm already a quarter of the way through the first draft. The only problem is that I don't have any betas, but I'll cross that bridge when I finish the 1st draft I suppose. Besides, one of my English professor's is an editor and she specializes in children's and YA literature, so I might have her butcher it for me, too. :)
Anyway that's what's up with me and my WiP. How are things with you and yours?

Why hello there!
It is Wednesday, so I'll give you all an update on the WiP. I just started chapter five the other night, and I'm still giddy about it; we haven't hit the rough patch yet, though I am right around 13k in. Progress, I'm making some. (I'd make more if I didn't have school. *grumbles*) Anyway, I'm having lots of fun with that. I told my lovely Alpha reader, Katie, what was going to happen with a character since she expressed worry and a certain iffy-ness; I think she hates me now. But in a god way, I hope.
In other news, I finally got Katie to admit that she's a writer, too. She's finally starting to post on her blog, and she has a wonderful "coming out" post that recounts her struggle with her writerly side. Katie also plans to start doing reviews on hr blog, so you should all go give her a chance. She's my bestie, and I'd like to show her how amazing the writing community really is.
My blog reached 91 followers today! I think that's awesome. :) And scary, because I always thought I would do a contest when I reached 100, but I don't think that's financially possible at this point. SO, instead I'm going to hold off until next semester (mid-August) and we'll see where we're at then. In the mean time, I'm open to suggestions. Personally I like winning books and writing swag. What would you like the chance to win? A gift card? A book? Inquiring minds (actually just inquiring mind, but who says that?) want to know! Just keep in mind I'm a college student and I don't have awesome connections (meaning I don't get ARCS lol).
Alright, moving on. I'm currently in the process of reading Percy Jackson #4, but I'm super busy so I've technically been reading it for about a week now. It's ridiculous. Anyway, since I haven't reviewed the previous books, I was thinking about taking a step back and reviewing them all before I review the fourth one instead of just jumping straight into the next to last book in the series. So look for those. I'll try to post one every week. And actually, I'm going to try posting reviews on Thursdays if I have one that week.
I know, I know, Amanda following a blogging schedule, what? I'm doing my best people. :) Any teasers will be posted on Tuesdays, though I do not foresee participating in that every week, and Wednesdays will continue to be reserved for WiP updates. I'll try to be more consistent with those, too. Mondays and Fridays are still up in the air, and I won't be posting on weekends since so many people are unplugging these days. If you have suggestions or requests for Monday and/or Friday posts just let me know; I aim to please!
I'll leave you with a picture, because I can. (Unfortunately, this little guy isn't real, but I still want one!)

WiP Wednesday
As for Rise of the Phoenix, revisions are coming along alright. I'm up to chapter 5, which brings me to a new total of 17,700-ish rewritten/revised words. My friend Kristin, who is absolutely amazing, got my first chapter back to me with notes (no she isn't a writer, but she reads A LOT), so chapter 1 is done. I think. It's pretty good right now, and it's going to stay how it is until the rest of draft 2 is complete.
The other idea I've been playing with is still toying with me. I haven't started actually writing it (ah the beauty of will power), but I have started writing about it. I'm trying to outline this one, flush out the major plot points and the details of the world and creatures, and it is SO much fun. I love it.
In other news, I submitted a short story (the only decent one I've ever written) to my school's literary journal, so we'll see how that goes.
How are things going for you? Making any progress or is life bogging you down?

WiP Wednesday
What with trying to get the hang of my new schedule, writing has been pretty slow. I did manage to get in over 650 words the other night, but haven't been able to make any progress since then. But, I have had another Shiny New Idea. This makes 3 books I have floating around in my head that I'm not currently working on. At all. I'm thinking I might have to soon... but who knows.
If all goes well tomorrow at work, I'll be able to get some editing done. Yay for working in a library! :D
In other news, I want to say that my heart goes out to those in Haiti. I've seen pictures of the damage that bring tears to my eyes and that make me incredibly thankful for everything in my life, even the things I wish were different right now. Drama and material goods become meaningless in the wake of such destruction. If you haven't already, take a moment to look at your life and think about what your thankful for, and be sure to tell the ones you love how much you care. Time is precious and life can be short.

WiP Wednesday
Today I spent 5 hours today looking over my MS, mind you I was having an Alias marathon as well (Season 3 to be precise), and I got around 4 pages edited. I'm satisfied with those 4 pages though (for now), and I've edited the first 16 pages altogether. That's the first 4,209 words. I'm happy with that.
The other day when I was editing, I kept starting at the beginning an reading over everything I had already changed, just to find something else I wanted to fix. It's locked in now though so I won't be going over it another half a dozen times. Hopefully I'll pick up some speed though once I get the 1st chapter finished. If I can get the foundation laid then things will go easier, right? I sure hope so. Besides, the beginning has always been the roughest part anyway.
On a different note, though slightly related, I have a Shiny New Idea. Now technically this idea has been festering in the back of my mind for a solid three months now, but it's really starting to drive me bonkers. Yes, that's how anxious I'm getting. Bonkers. The problem is that I promised myself I wouldn't play with said SNI until I was finished with the book I'm working on. I might die if I take too much longer.
My goal was to have ROTP finished and query ready by graduation in May 2011, I think I'm going to have to bump that day up. If I have to go another year and a half without so much as writing an outline or a character bio, I might snap. It's going to be great though, I hope, when I start fiddling with it.
I'm just so excited, both for ROTP and Shiny New Idea. And I'm working in the library at school this next semester so hopefully I'll be writing during work. It's going to be fantastic. :)
How are your WIPs or MS? Anyone out there have an agent yet? Anyone querying?

WiP Wednesday and Life
On a brighter note, I've started draft #2! :D Super happy about that, sad that I haven't had the time to touch it in days though. I'm handwriting this one because I usually hand write the first draft but for some reason switched to the computer early in. Anyway, I feel the need to get more personal with this draft so it's coming out in pen this time and will move back to the computer either as I see fit or when draft 2 is complete.
Just to show you guys how I distinguish the days, I only that today was Wednesday because Glee came on. I knew it was either Monday or Wednesday because of my classes, but Glee was the main indicator. Which, by the way, if you aren't watching that show, you should. It's pretty awesome.
School is going fairly well. Balancing everything out is more than a little difficult but I'm having fun and enjoying the things I'm doing, and that's the important thing, right? Haha. The Canterbury Tales, Cyrano de Bergerac, and World Mythology are calling my name, so rather than getting any writing/editing done I'm going to be a good student and try to do homework instead.
Are you behind on anything this week? Have you been meeting your writing goals?

WiP Wednesday
Last week I got 600 words. It was amazing! And then I realized I needed to outline the ending because part of the reason I hadn't been making any progress was that I didn't know for sure what I wanted to happen. But now I do. And it makes me happy. :D
Life has been seriously hectic lately and I'm STILL trying to sort out my time. It's actually kind of ridiculous but eventually I'll get everything worked out, right? Right? I hope so.
I'm still trying to read all of your wonderful blogs but commenting has been cut back recently. In fact, I think the only person who's received a comment lately was Natalie Whipple, who is absolutely amazing and now signed with the awesome Nathan Bransford. So CONGRATULATIONS!! to her again.
So don't feel bad if I haven't commented, I'm trying to juggle a gazillion things and commenting and even reading blogs just isn't a priority right now. And speaking of priorities, I've got to go do a ton of reading for school and then sacrifice a workout to the Writing Gods so that I might make some progress on my WiP this week.
Goal for next WiP Wednesday: have at least 1 new chapter written.
Dream for next WiP Wednesday: have the 1st draft complete.
What are your (writing) goals for this week?

WiP Wednesday, College, Life, Fraternity, and Supernatural
I mean it.
College is awesome. Really it is. I'm a nerd, I love school. My only problem with it is the other people. They tend to lose all of their manners and become rude little pricks who are so wrapped up in drama that sometimes I feel like I've been physically run over by the train of lies, accusations, and angst that trails behind them.
Yay college. :) On the other hand, my classes FREAKING ROCK. Except Psychology, he just preaches straight outta the book. It's dull. But everything else is amazing. :D
All of my free time lately has been going to homework, my friends and/or the fraternity to which I have pledge my soul (it's music, so it to a good cause). What's left of my time after all of that? Quality roommate bonding time over Supernatural on DVD. What better way to de-stress than by watching Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles battle supernatural forces?
Absolutely. Nothing. (Unless you throw in some Jiffy Pop and Dr. Pepper or sweet tea.)
So that's what I've been doing. Taking life one day at a time and trying to figure out when I'll have time to write. Speaking of which, I'm down to an hour and twelve minutes so I'm gonna gonna go now.
Hopefully the rest of you have had MUCH more success and progress this week than I have. I know life has been getting in all of your ways as well so here's to hoping she'll stop being so needy and clingly and let us get some work done.
QUESTION of the DAY: What do you do to de-stress after a long and tiring, or possibly just nerver-wracking, day?

WiP Wednesday
On RotP I've written a whopping 5,366 new words since last Wed. but I'll admit I'm working on it now. So, as of this particular moment I have a total of 51,764 words. Sadly I'm not happy with this number, I thought I'd make more progress this week. :(
In other news, this week I:
- had a root canal (lots of fun there!)
- had one of my best friends lose his father to a heart attack
- ordered flowers for said friend's family
- picked figs
- took pictures of wedding decorations (for my brother's)
- took pictures of me in possible dresses for wedding (for his fiance's other bride's maids)
- started talking to an old friend/ex-boyfriend
- read Rachel Vincent's My Soul to Lose
- added even more books to my TBR list
- packed/organized stuff for moving back to the dorm
What have you done this week? Been super busy or totally bored?

WiP Wednesday
My senior year in high school I started wearing reading glasses, I was 17 by the way. Anyway I've gone up in strength every year since and I
I'm only a few chapters away from being finished with the 1st draft and I'm getting giddy about writing a certain scene that is going to seriously challenge my MC. Oh I can't wait!
In other news, I've been reading The Bourne Identity, I've always enjoyed the movies, but the book is incredible! And so much different than the movies, it's great.
How are things going for you this week? Did you encounter any set backs or did you accomplish more than you'd hoped? Are you super excited about anything? Read any good books lately?

Work in Progress Wednesday

It's a week of firsts for me here on the blog. :) Yesterday was my first attempt at a decent summary for Teaser Tuesday and today, as you're all well aware, is WiP Wednesday.
This week, last night in particular was huge for me. My WiP, Rise of the Phoenix broke 40k! I started the summer with less than 20k and with less than a month to go before move-in day and the beginning of classes, I'm super excited at all the progress I've made.
Yesterday I wrote 2000 words, most after 9PM. I'm still trying not to do a happy dance. :P Especially considering the large amount of time and energy I put in to rearranging the living room. *sigh*
My goal is to get 50k or finish the 1st draft before Aug. 17th; I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Editing is fairly nonexistent right now, I'm focusing on getting the whole thing out before I rip it to shreds. So, naturally, I have a list of things that pop into my head that I need to fix or add or delete.
My friend Brooke is working on her own project and my super-excited Facebook status updates have been motivating her to write; she broke 11k last night! We keep cheering each other on, it's great to have writing friends!
What have you accomplished this week? Did you set any new goals this week?
