Making a Comeback
So this is me stepping away from another 3-6 years of school, not because I'm afraid of the challenge or because I don't think I can handle it, but because I no longer have a good enough reason to go. Why put off what makes me happy for the possibility of future happiness when I can do what I love and be happy now? Why did I have to make this so complicated to begin with? I've said I was going to be back on more (and I have), but I really think after I get this thesis done and I graduate (again) that my writing life will make a major comeback, and posting here and reading what you guys have to say is a big part of that. I've let my writing, and myself, sit for far too long. And I'm happier just thinking about what graduation holds for me now. Here's to being true to yourself and doing what you love.

Umm, So, Yea
I came back from NY. I tried to get a job. Finally got offered a position as a part-time Circulation Assistant at the main branch of the public library. I signed on. During the interview process and waiting period, I began to look at grad school. On Tuesday I did my training at the library in preparation for starting next week. The day after my training I spoke with the main advisor for the program I was looking at. She told me I could either start this fall or wait until next summer. I could not stand the thought of waiting.
Cue frazzled me into calling and emailing everyone about enrolling in classes. By the way, classes start in about a month.
Did I mention the frazzled flailing? There was quite a bit of it. The flailing has subsided a bit now.
Anywho, that's what's up with me. I just got a job at the library and now I'm trying to get into grad school. Oh, right, I'm going back to get licensed to teach English for those of you who were wondering. Woot for lots of hardcore education classes!
How are your summers going?

WiP Update
This story is fantastic and wonderful and new and exciting. And I love it. I'm also still not telling you anything about it, other than it's a paranormal YA hahaha. The only problem is that I've been on Spring Break all week, and I probably won't get to do much more writing for a while. I've got to spend my last two days catching up on all the homework I was supposed to get done (so not cool) instead of starting chapter 3. *sigh* Oh well.
School work is calling... The good news? I get to read Beastly by Alex Flinn for my Folklore class and write a paper on it, unless I choose to do Mercedes Lackey's The Fire Rose instead. I love awesome English classes. :) The bad news, that's the easiest and smallest assignment I have.
Are you making progress on something that you're working on? Are you getting bogged down with school/work/kids? Have anything to look forward to?
This may be the last you hear of me for a while. Farewell, my friends!

Grad School vs Work
I'm torn between Texas Tech (they have a cool Book History program that would go with publishing) and Purdue (it's Purdue...I mean it's pretty awesome) for grad school but I wouldn't be able to work at a lit agency until after I was finished with school.
So, do I wait another 2 years (after graduation in May 2011) or do I move off and become an intern and work my way up or try to get a job with only a BA in English? Anyone know any agents who might have advice? I follow a lot on twitter and on here but I don't know if they'd mind these types of questions. *sigh*
On a writing note, SNI keeps trying to tempt me when I'm trying to go to bed at night. I don't think I'll be able to stay away until I'm finished with edits...

I like books. <3
Teaser (from the very beginning so all you've missed is familial interactions and now he's on a diving board on a yacht):
Tom peeled off his shirt and dropped it on the wooden floor at the foot of the diving board. He let his eyes roam over the dark water and watched the breeze move through the branches of the nearby trees and across the surface of the lake. It was gorgeous. Tom climbed the few small steps to the small diving board and closed his eyes. The light breeze swept over his bare chest and through his short hair and eased the tension out of his muscles. He breathed in the fresh air and bounced lightly a few times to get a feel for the board. For an instant he froze. Tom had always been terrified of drowning, and staring at water that was so deep he couldn’t see the bottom momentarily took control of his nerves. He took a deep breath to steady them, bounced a little higher on the board, and dove.
There was a flash of bright red light as he flew through the air, and Tom automatically threw his arms up to shield his eyes. He kept his eyes closed tight against the harsh light and took a deep breath, bracing himself for the sharp pain of a belly flop that never came. Tom would have been shocked to find a hard floor beneath him instead of the lake if he had seen it coming. His head hit the ground with a sickening crack, and he rolled onto his back automatically. Tears welled in his blue-gray eyes, and he gasped in shock and pain.
The air was cold and thin; the floor was like ice against his bare skin, making it feel as if his skin was tearing away from his bones with every move he made. Tom had difficulty breathing. His lungs felt tight; he choked trying to breathe in, but the air filling his lungs was not the oxygen that his body needed. His lungs were on fire, his head felt like it was splitting apart, and his entire body ached from the impact of his landing and the frigid temperature of the room. He shifted onto his side and tried to ignore the sharp pain in his head, while his lungs screamed for air. Tom clutched at his chest and opened and closed his mouth repeatedly like a fish out of water. He twitched and shook uncontrollably. He held himself tight and curled into a ball in an attempt to reclaim some semblance of control over his own body. He could feel the pressure rising in his head and eyes, and he slipped on to his back once more, gasping for air that would never come. Within seconds he was unconscious. His body was tense for another moment, and then he relaxed. The struggle to breathe was over. Tom had lost.
Alrighty, now then, a WiP update: I am working on editing chapter 2 now and almost finished (I think). Chapter one was 31 pages but I went back and cut it around pg 24 and tagged the rest onto the beginning of chap 2 (obviously). Now my chapters are all going to be out of whack so I have to keep an eye out for new chapter breaks as I go.
Also, did I mention this draft is basically a rewrite? The 1st draft is in 1st person but it wasn't working so now the whole thing is changing to 3rd. Woo! Fun stuff this writing business. :)
In other news, I will be moving back to school on Sunday and resuming classes the very next day. Luckily I don't start working in the library until Tuesday (I am such a nerd haha). This semester is gonna be good. I can feel it... honestly, it just really needs to not suck.
Hopefully (because I have fewer and easier classes), I will not be taking another 3 month blogging hiatus. AND, if all goes well, I might start doing reviews, because I just bought 4 new books and I plan on buying more. :)
Today's book purchases were: Dune, Ender's Game, Wicked, and Stray. I. Cannot. Wait.
That's all for tonight/today/whatever. So what about you, buy any new books lately?

Happy Tuesday
Last week I had two midterms and a test. I barely studied for my Psych test so that I could really do well on my two midterms and it shows. Today I got back my grades for the English midterms and I 'bout did a happy dance in the middle of both classes. 100% A+ for World Lit and 93% A on the Graphic Novel test.
I finally feel like putting my book on hold was a good decision and that it's making difference. Also, I feel like a badass, but that's just because I like As. :)
Have you ever given something up and wondered if you made the right choice? Is there something in particular that makes your hard work worthwhile?

C'est la vie.
I don't know how to take this. No matter what I do or who I spend time with, people continuously have mean things to say about me, things that aren't true, things that are meant to hurt me. And I don't know why. I try to be a good person and be nice to people. I don't spread rumors or get into other people's business. So why do these things keep happening to me? Because that's just the way life is?
First I was having an affair with a married man. Then I was stealing the same guy away from his new girlfriend. I'm telling lies, acting strange, looking for power and getting into Fraternity business that doesn't concern me, AND I am now a closet lesbian because I cut my hair. And the worst part about this is that according to the person who was confronted about all of this, it is my roommate who happens to be one of my closest friends who is saying all of these things.
I've tried to be kind to people. I've tried staying out of their business. I've tried being myself. Nothing I do seems to be good enough for anyone and frankly I'm tired of it. Is this the way life's supposed to be? Yes, I know that no matter where you go there's drama and BS, but really?
It's mid semester and I'm ready to be away from all of these people. Switching schools has never looked better but I don't know if it's the right thing to do. Maybe it's just these people at this school, but seriously, was I the only one who missed the memo that said college was about being the biggest ass imaginable to those around you? Or is that just a life in general rule?
What's the deal? I was told life would get better after high school, which by the way was not the best time of my life at all, but instead things just keep getting worse.
I know this has nothing to do with anything, though I suppose it could make one heck of a novel someday, but I needed to let it out and see what the rest of the world has to say about life and drama.
Do you have any drama? Is life the way you thought it would be?

Sunday Apology
Right now I'm taking time out from working on a review for a midterm I have on Tuesday for my Graphic Novel class. Wednesday I have a test for Psychology that I desperately need to cram for. And Thursday is my World Lit Midterm.
Tomorrow I've got to find a way to go to all of my classes, go home for the memorial of a friend's dad who died the other day, and get back to school in time to still have a cello lesson AND get to my night class. That doesn't even include the three papers I have due next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
I think I might update with my paper on Alan Moore's Watchmen when I get it back, let you see what I'm writing instead of my novel. :( But hopefully in another two weeks I'll be able to get back to some form of regularly scheduled posts and to reading all of your posts as well. I miss reading all of your blogs and I know they'd help get me through all of the school drama I have if I could only find time to squeeze you all in.
Until then, I'm going to focus on my classes and keeping my GPA up so I have a chance of doing well after graduation... TTFN my friends. I hope it won't be too long before my next post!

WiP Wednesday and Life
On a brighter note, I've started draft #2! :D Super happy about that, sad that I haven't had the time to touch it in days though. I'm handwriting this one because I usually hand write the first draft but for some reason switched to the computer early in. Anyway, I feel the need to get more personal with this draft so it's coming out in pen this time and will move back to the computer either as I see fit or when draft 2 is complete.
Just to show you guys how I distinguish the days, I only that today was Wednesday because Glee came on. I knew it was either Monday or Wednesday because of my classes, but Glee was the main indicator. Which, by the way, if you aren't watching that show, you should. It's pretty awesome.
School is going fairly well. Balancing everything out is more than a little difficult but I'm having fun and enjoying the things I'm doing, and that's the important thing, right? Haha. The Canterbury Tales, Cyrano de Bergerac, and World Mythology are calling my name, so rather than getting any writing/editing done I'm going to be a good student and try to do homework instead.
Are you behind on anything this week? Have you been meeting your writing goals?

Random?
My book is coming along a little slower than I'd like right now but a lot faster than I thought it would at the beginning of the summer. I came home from school with around 45 pages; I'm starting this morning with 111. Like I said, it's coming along. :) I'm hoping I can get a lot done over break since I'm thinking I won't have much time once the next semester starts- I'll be taking 21 hrs and hopefully be working a few at the library too.
My goal is to have this thing done and ready to start querying by graduation in 2011. My dream, however, is to be done and querying by senior year and going through the publishing process by graduation. In reality, who knows what will happen between now and May, 2011 haha.
Well, I'm going to go write so that I'll be one step closer to my goal and my dream.
TTFN- that's Ta Ta For Now for those of you not raised on Tigger and Winnie the Pooh- you poor souls....
