Reading

Right now, I'm reading The Time Traveler's Wife. It's amazing and beautiful and I really like it. But it's a bit of a slow read for me, not because it's boring/dull or anything like that but because I'm savoring all the little details in the story. Why am I telling you this? This isn't a review or a spoiler or anything. This is a confession.

I don't read more than one book at a time. In the past I've said that I can't do it. Well, that was a lie.I know, I know. I lied. Don't hate me. I can (sometimes), but I don't. Most of the time I really do have a hard time reading more than one book at a time, I do. But it can be done if they're completely different. I used to read books that were all fairly similar so you can see why reading more than one book at a time would present a problem for me. (Just agree with me here...please.)

However, now I read a larger variety of books. I read adult, young adult, and middle grade. I read fantasy, science fiction, contemporary, historical, steampunk. I read widely. Not only do I read what's current, but I read older books. Heck, most of the time that's all I have access to, older books (not OMG that was written in the 80s! but books that my library didn't pick up until they were incredibly successful [my school library JUST got copies of Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle and we don't have anything of Scott Westerfeld's]).

I'm not trying to complain, on the contrary, I LOVE libraries. I think everyone needs access to them, because we can't all afford to BUY every book we want to read but we can read them and then talk people with money into buying them. :) Libraries are awesome and highly important, and I love them.

So, my point is, that I'm going to start reading more than one book at a time if the two are of different age group and genre (more than likely). This should make it easier for me to keep them separate, not that I get confused or anything I just tend to forget things, which isn't cool.

The good news is, I'll be able to keep up with 2 reviews a week over more than just YA books, because I'm a believer in reading outside of a single genre/age group/what have you. How else will you learn? Variety is key.

Do you read more than one book at a time? In your reading and/or writing preferences, do you stick to one genre or age group and refuse to branch out?

Note: I just wanted to go ahead and say that I've updated the blog a bit, in case you haven't noticed; I want to point out that instead of having a long list of blogs I think are incredibly useful in some way, form, or fashion, I now have an entire page for them.

I like the clean lay out! Very nice! I can't read more than one book at a time either. Time Traveler's Wife? It wasn't for me. I also thought it was too slow, but I also didn't like the movie either.

I LOVE TTTW!! :)
So so good.

I read two or three books at a time too. Unless one really sucks me in and has me mega addicted. But those are the kind I end up reading in 1 or 2 sittings cuz I just can't stop reading.

Happy Friday! The blog looks great.

You made me smile when I looked on your writing blogs page and you had 'author' next to me! I love you long time!!

I usually only read one book at a time but I will stop and read a book in the middle of something else. Something like Paranormalcy. All books will be dropped for that one!

I haven't read TTTW yet but it's on my shelf, so soon.

I can only read one book at a time. But by doing that, I finish the book faster than if I'm multi-tasking.

I read more than one book at a time in university when I was studying literature and philosophy, but that was only because I had to. Now that I'm a full time teacher and a full time wife, I barely have time to read one book a week; usually it takes me several weeks to finish a book.

I have "Time Traveler's Wife" on my To-read list on Goodreads! I can't wait!

I can read several at a time if one is fiction and the rest are nonfiction. Seldom do I read two novels at once. But as an English major, you must have to.

I read several books at a time, but one (at home) is at a much slower pace than the other (on bus). The 'home' book's always a novel; the bus book varies. I've never had a problem keeping plots separate, even when the genre and age are the same.

My reading list runs from adult sci-fi/fantasy to paranormal YA to histories and pop science, with the occasional 'something else' thrown in. I should probably diversify more than I do, but some types of books and some authors hold very little interest for me.

The only way I usually read 2 books at a time is if I'm reading one at school and one at home. I do read a wide variety of genres though. I like too many styles to narrow it down.

I can only read one book at a time and work on one project at a time. I envy people who multi task, but it just isn't in me to tackle more than one at once. :)

I LOVED The Time Traveler's Wife! Did I tell you about when I was listening to it in the car? It was on shuffle, and I didn't even realize!
