Shiny New Project and TSA
In the mean time, I have begun work on what I have dubbed Shiny New Project. About a month or so ago, this boy popped into my head. I don't know where he came from. I didn't know his name or anything about him. I just knew he had a story, and he wanted me to tell it. And this is how he came to me:
"I was ten when the world ended. Well, sort of. My sister Laney was thirteen. She'd remember it better than me, but she never even made it to fifteen. She wasn't the only one."
That little guy had me. He did. but I'd promised myself I wasn't going to work on anything else until TSA was out for crits. And I didn't. So TSA got shipped to my lovelies, and Shiny New Idea became Shiny New Project. I wrote the first chapter (a whole whopping 3 pages) the first night without knowing anything more than those four sentences. Now I know a whole lot more.
This new book is some odd version of a post-apocalyptic/dystopian, and I say odd because the world has literally just ended, and the whole point of the book is the formation of the dystopian society/-ies. It's gonna be so much fun. No supernatural abilities. No paranormal creatures. Just people. Living in a futuristic world that's fallen to pieces around them.
EXCITING.
So, what're all of you fine people up to as of late?

Sounds like a cool idea!
I'm in editing hell. It's monotone here.
That sounds awesome Amanda! A post-apocalyptic all about trying to NOT become a dystopia is a very intriguing concept. How the worlds form is always my favorite part of a dystopia.
Oh, and "After the World Ends" would be a pretty sweet title. Unless you wanted to go poetic and do something like "After Nightfall" (or does that make you think of Vampires?). Perhaps just "AFTER." Well, just let me pick, apparently.
Anyway, I like it. I'm in the final throws of my revision. I'm getting a readthrough finished so I can send the MS off, and then do a copyedit before jumping fully into another query round. Then... who knows? Maybe I'll pickup my own post-apocalyptic, Weathervane? Or maybe something new... hmm....
Congrats on finishing your draft! That's awesome news. I applaud you for sticking with your old project despite the allure of the Shiny New Idea. Good luck with the writing and editing you've got in store!
I've been thinking of writing a dystopian, but I'm not sure how good I'd be at that. Instead, I think I'll write an alternate history or steampunk next.
I also have a shiny new project, though mine comes at the sad demise of the last project rather than at its success.
My shiny new project came with just one sentence.
"A machine is truth."
From that, an entire world bloomed into being. I've been working on it for only a week now, but I'm really excited about it. It's steampunk, and I'm scared to death by it, but I'm even more fascinated. Here's to successful shiny projects!
Wow! Have fun! I'm also doing something Apocalyptic, but instead of dystopian societies, I've been leaning more towards the lore side of it (Horsemen and what not), so that's been fun. I'm also taking a break from my magic realism story about a woman who lives her life backwards. But I'll get back to it! Good luck with your new project! :)
Congrats on the third draft and the start of revisions! My revisions always go better with music and Starbucks, so if you need some of that I'm willing ot share!
Have fun with the new project!! I'm finishing up the query and synopsis of my latest novel. Once they're done and I'm querying, I get to think about a shiny new project. I can't wait.
That sounds like a really cool new project. I'm in the middle of revisions and a new idea keeps popping into my head but I told myself I wasn't going to start writing anything until the current wip is done. I'll have to see how that goes.
You're awesome. That's all.
Congrats on finishing one project. The new one certainly sounds fascinating too! Just that one blurb makes me want to pick up the book and read it. Happy writing !
