Review: Fracture

Fracture by Megan Miranda

Description:

Eleven minutes passed before Delaney Maxwell was pulled from the icy waters of a Maine lake by her best friend Decker Phillips. By then her heart had stopped beating. Her brain had stopped working. She was dead. And yet she somehow defied medical precedent to come back seemingly fine

—despite the scans that showed significant brain damage. Everyone wants Delaney to be all right, but she knows she's far from normal. Pulled by strange sensations she can't control or explain, Delaney finds herself drawn to the dying. Is her altered brain now predicting death, or causing it?

Then Delaney meets Troy Varga, who recently emerged from a coma with similar abilities. At first she's reassured to find someone who understands the strangeness of her new existence, but Delaney soon discovers that Troy's motives aren't quite what she thought. Is their gift a miracle, a freak of nature-or something much more frightening?

For fans of best-sellers like Before I Fall and If I Stay, this is a fascinating and heart-rending story about love and friendship and the fine line between life and death.

Mini-Review: A fast-paced, thrilling novel about life and death and the love that holds us together.

My Thoughts:

Drowning in a frozen lake isn't the strangest thing that's happened to Delaney Maxwell. Neither is coming back to life. The strangest thing that's ever happened to Delaney is everything since then.

While this book definitely has things in common with books like If I Stay and The Body Finder, Megan Miranda has created something incredible and different. There's no denying Delaney has a connection with death, but is it stronger than her desire to live her life?

I loved everything about this book: the characters, the romance, the intense drama. In fact, I read this book over a month ago, and I still find myself thinking about it sometimes. It's one of those stories I want to read again and again because it was so well-written and the characters so vivid that I need to be a part of that world again.

Fracture is an achingly beautiful book with plenty of twists and turns and all the emotional turmoil you could want. Megan Miranda is on my watch list of up-and-coming writers, and I can't wait to see what else she has up her sleeve.

Kristin, it makes me happy when you comment. :)

Patti, I loved If I Stay. It has a similar style and tone to it but none of the out-of-body type experiences. I hope you like it!

Thanks for the review! I won this book in a contest and your review makes me totally excited. I'm very big on fast-paced and twisty, so this seems right up my alley.
